St Kilda did not disappoint on the ultimate day of its eponymous festival. Jade Cantwell of the Hard Workers Club was there snapping the amazing Massive Wieners Rollin’ Diner, the music, hula hoops and various other diversions. So idyllic it verges on parodic but you’d never call it that because its too much of a fun time.

Melbourne’s Sugar Mountain Festival was a hell of a night. Kirin J Callinan embroiled himself in controversy involving a photosensitive epileptic and body builder. Action Bronson was (falsely) rumoured to have been arrested. Most of all though, the music reigned. From ESG through to standout locals Brothers Hand Mirror and dancing ‘til the very end courtesy of Stone’s Throw label chief Peanut Butter Wolf.

We had Ben Clement from Hard Workers Club on the ground (or the floor, more accurately) taking pictures at the Animals Dancing New Year’s Day party featuring Marcellus Pitman, Lovefingers and Psychemagik. People danced. Like animals. Hence the name.

Tropfest is done for another year. A silver screen just as big yet somehow shorter dimmed ‘til this time next year. But we’ll always have Paris. Now that’s how you open a festival. What a day. Samuel J Davison of the Hard Workers Club was at the opening of the Sydney Festival yesterday. Takin’ photos, takin’ in the sun, livin’ life. There were marathons that didn’t go anywhere, a gargantuan rubber ducky, Sharon Jones and—basically—the whole of the Daptone Records roster.
